What’s the Difference?

  • Direct Thermal Labels

These labels use heat to create an image. When heat from the printhead interacts with the label surface, it activates components that mix and (usually) turn black, creating a clear, sharp image without the need for a ribbon.

  • Thermal Transfer Labels

These use a thermal ribbon. The heat from the printhead releases the ribbon, bonding it to the label surface for a high-quality image that’s long-lasting and resistant to wear.

Both options are designed to work flawlessly with all printer makes and models, including Zebra, Toshiba, Honeywell, Sato, and Citizen, which are available for both small and large label printers.

Thermal Transfer Label Materials

  • Matt White Paper

These labels have a matte finish and are ideal for packaging boxes and pallet labelling—great for when you need functional, reliable labels.

  • Semi-Gloss Paper

These labels are perfect for promotional and quality product labelling and have a sleek and professional look with a medium gloss finish.

  • Polyester (PET)

Highly resistant to heat, water, oil, and chemicals, polyester labels are made for demanding environments. This material is ideal for asset labels, serial labels, and for labelling cosmetics, appliances, and electrical equipment.

  • Polyethene (PE)

Durable and water-, oil-, and chemical-resistant polyethene labels are ideal for curved surfaces like test tubes, vials, and chemical drums.

  • Polypropylene (PP)

Perfect for long-term labelling, polypropylene labels are resistant to water, oil, and chemicals. They’re great for packaging materials and labelling laboratory samples and patient information.
